How can we design a home to minimize site impacts?
The Overland Cabin is a small prefabricated cabin prototype designed to minimize any environmental impacts from the construction process . Views into the landscape were the driving concept for the 640 square foot cabin.
The cabin plan is simple: kitchen, utility and storage spaces run along the north wall allowing circulation to move freely alongside it. The cabin has one bedroom and one bathroom, and is divided equally between the public and private space. The entry is from a raised boardwalk that hovers just above the ground. The foundation is designed to blend with the rock outcropping allowing the house to cantilever out over the hillside.
