The Spider Rock Road Mixed-Use Development is more than a master plan; it is a vision for a thriving, intergenerational community at Taos Pueblo. Our work on this 50-acre site is guided by a respect for the cultural and natural character of the land, aiming to create a place that is not only beautiful but also resilient, healthy, and a true extension of the community’s legacy.

In collaboration with Taos Pueblo leadership, Taos Pueblo Housing Authority, and community members, our design process began with listening. We sought to understand the community’s critical need for housing and to honor the rich indigenous history embedded in every acre of the site. The resulting master plan is a carefully considered framework for a new rural neighborhood, one that provides a diverse mix of housing options—from single-family homes and senior living to multi-family rentals and individual home sites—all designed to be safe, interconnected, accessible, affordable and integrated into the natural landscape.

The design team is deeply committed to a design process that works in harmony with the environment. By meticulously maintaining wildlife corridors and focusing on climate-resilient stormwater strategies, the community can thrive for generations to come. The design preserves the area’s significant architectural history, weaving it into the very fabric of the new development.

Perhaps most importantly, this project addresses the decades-long housing shortage faced by the Taos Pueblo community. Primarily funded by grants, it is a debt-free solution that empowers the Taos Housing Authority to own the homes and work directly with potential homeowners, making homeownership a reality through an accessible, one-on-one process.

The Spider Rock Road Mixed-Use Development is an embodiment of our belief that excellent design makes space for everyone. It is a project rooted in collaboration, driven by community, and built to honor the past while securing a sustainable future.
